The qualifying final against Randwick-Petersham was Hayden Kerr’s 100th First Grade match.

Kieran Tate had played 25 First Grade innings before Saturday, but on no previous occasion had he hit the first delivery he faced for six.

We don’t have a precise count on the number of players who have scored more than 10,000 runs for a single club, but it seems to be just over twenty.

The Limited Overs final against Northern District on Sunday was Damien Mortimer’s 150th game for the club, all in First Grade.  On Saturday, he set a new (and bizarre) record for the club, when a run was scored from his bowling – he had played 149 matches for the club without conceding a run (his one previous over, sent down in 2020-21, was a maiden).

In Fifths, Hugo Fraval followed career-best bowling figures on day one with his highest score for the club (19) on the second – which may not seem all that many, but as University recovered from 4 for 3 to chase down Gordon’s score, it was far from insignificant.  Rajprasanyth Varatharajah contributed his highest score in Fifths (30) to the same chase.

James Chan has passed 500 runs for the club in all grades.

In the Metropolitan Cup match with Randwick-Petersham, Ben Crawford notched his second hundred for the club (112 not out) in just his fourth match, lifting his batting average to 136.

Avijay Maharaj extended his highest score for the club to 83 in the Metropolitan Cup match with Randwick-Petersham.

The partnership of 188 between Pranav Kalia and Ben Wright-Smith in the Metropolitan Cup match against Blacktown was a club record for the fourth wicket in this grade.

Monday Milestone (Mainly Malone)

It was quite a weekend for Devlin Malone.  His match-winning 6-93 against Wests on Saturday drew him level with Dr Stewart Smith (University wartime captain) with 241 First Grade wickets for the club, the eighth-highest tally for Sydney University.  It was the tenth five-wicket haul of his First Grade career, eight of them for Sydney University.  In his first over the following day, he first equalled, and then passed, left arm swing bowler Geoff Pike (242 wickets) to become the seventh-highest wicket taker for the club in First Grade.  And he went on to collect his eleventh five-wicket haul (nine for the club), demolishing Fairfield-Liverpool with 5-7 – which included his 250th wicket for the club in all grades.  This was not only Devlin’s first T20 five wicket haul for the club, but also seems to have been the best return by any bowler in the history of the Sydney T20 competition – we can’t find any record of a bowler taking more than five wickets, or conceding as few as seven runs while doing it.

Dylan Hunter hit his first century for the club, a ferocious 120 from 60 balls against Fairfield-Liverpool in the T20 match on Sunday.  Hunter reached his century from only 48 balls, and moved from 79 to 103 by smashing four successive sixes from the bowling of Jake Wholohan (he followed with a four and a single, taking 29 from the over).  During his innings he passed 1500 runs in First Grade (including 1129 for Gordon and 246 for Randwick-Petersham) and it was the third century of his First Grade career.
