And there have been plenty of club debuts in the AW Green Shield team: welcome to Lukas Boorer, Evander Herbert, Samuel Smith, Oscar Sinclair and Declan Fitzpatrick.

Milestone Monday

Sydney University finished the preliminary rounds of the Kingsgrove Sports T20 competition in first place in the Sydney Thunder Conference, and will now progress to the conference semi-finals on 9 January.

Nick Larkin’s 52 not out (from 43) for the Melbourne Stars against Sydney Thunder was his fifth half-century in the BBL.  He was also caught twice from deliveries called no-ball for height, which may not be a record, but doesn’t happen every day.

Jordan Gauci’s 105 against Hawkesbury on Saturday was his first century for the club, and his sixth in First Grade.  During his 33 not out against Northern District on Sunday, Jordan passed 4000 runs in First Grade (244 for University, 2201 for Blacktown, 1175 for Hawkesbury and 394 for Campbelltown).

Charlie Dummer recorded his highest First Grade score, 90 against Hawkesbury on Saturday – his eighth half-century in Firsts.  He now has First Grade scores of 88, 89 and 90 to his name.  During his innings he passed 1500 runs for the club in all grades.

The match against Hawkesbury on Saturday was Tim Cummins’ 300th Premier Cricket match in all grades, and he also passed 4500 runs in First Grade.

During the match against Hawkesbury on Saturday, Dugald Holloway passed 1000 runs in First Grade (19 of them for Easts).  The following day, during his 29 against Northern District, he passed 1000 First Grade runs for the club.

The match against Hawkesbury on Saturday was Devlin Malone’s 100th First Grade appearance for the club.  He joined Dave Hanlin (who opened the bowling for NSW in the late 1940s) as the 11th highest wicket-taker for the club in Firsts when he took his 197th wicket.  He also, on the same day, batted for the 100th time in Premier Cricket in all grades.  On Sunday, his match-winning spell of 3-9 in the T20 match with Northern District included his 200th First Grade wicket for the club.  He becomes the 13th player to reach that milestone for the club.  Devlin’s 3-9 against Northern District was the least expensive four-over spell for the club in the T20 competition since 2016-17, when Devlin took 3-9 from four overs against Penrith. Devlin was, however, some way short of the least expensive analysis ever recorded for University (or anyone else) in the competition, which was Tom Kierath’s 4-2-5-2 against Mosman in 2012-13.

The T20 match against Northern District on Sunday was Hayden Kerr’s 150th match for the club in all grades.

Ravi Wikramanayake’s 111 against Hawkesbury in Seconds on Saturday was his first century in Premier Cricket.  During his innings he passed 1000 runs in Second Grade (763 of them for Blacktown).

Kieran Tate took his 276th wicket for the club on Saturday, joining Jim Kazaglis as the 32nd highest wicket-taker in the club’s history.  He passed Kazaglis the following day, picking up his 277th wicket during his nerveless final over in the T20 match against Northern District.

Lewis McMahon collected his career-best bowling figures, 6-16 against Hawkesbury in Third Grade.  It was his seventh five-wicket haul for the club, six of which have been in Thirds.

Josh Toyer’s 71 not out against Hawkesbury was his fourth half-century for the club, but his first in Third Grade.

Ned Barnet and Hugo Ikeda each took his first wicket in Third Grade against Hawkesbury on Saturday.

During his innings of 34 against Hawkesbury on Saturday, Ash Cowan passed Craig Tomko (6366 runs) and Alan Crompton (6373) to become the ninth-highest run-scorer in the club’s history.  His tally now stands at 6395.

Jazz Rinka’s 76 against Hawkesbury on Saturday was not only his highest score and first half-century in Fourth Grade, but also exceeded his aggregate (74) from his previous 18 innings in Fourths.

Chris Roussos played his third innings for the club on Saturday, and scored his third half-century.  His 71 against Hawkesbury was his highest score for the club.

Lewis Ansell passed 500 runs for the club in all grades.

The club’s two Metropolitan Cup sides faced each other on Saturday.  Henry Cain (3-39) collected his best bowling figures for the club for Gold at the expense of Blue.  Tushar Sharma (56 not out) hit his second half-century and highest score for the club, while Jack Manson-Lill (5-30) returned his first five-wicket haul for the club.  Raphael Giles’ 69 was his second half-century for the club.

Milestone Monday

Hayden Kerr took his first BBL wickets in the Sydney Sixers’ win over the Melbourne Stars on Sunday night.  He dismissed Peter Nevill and Hilton Cartwright with the last two balls of his first over, and was promptly removed from the attack to avoid the risk of him taking a hat-trick.

Damien Mortimer recorded his 34th First Grade innings above fifty on Saturday (68 against Sutherland), including eight centuries.  During his innings he passed 8000 runs in Premier Cricket in all grades and for all his clubs.  He also moved past Dr HO Rock (3899) to become the club’s tenth highest run scorer in First Grade.  Dr Rock, as everyone remembers, scored 758 runs at an average of 94.75 in his six first-class games between 1924 and 1926, and is the only batsman to have a higher Sheffield Shield average than Bradman.

When Devlin Malone removed Daniel Rixon on Saturday, with a ball best described as “flighted”, it was his 350th Premier Cricket wicket in all grades.

During his innings against Sutherland on Saturday, Liam Robertson passed 5000 runs in First Grade.  He’s the fifth batsman to pass this milestone for the club, and the 282nd player to reach 5000 runs in the history of the First Grade competition.  His 67 against Campbelltown on Sunday was his 25th score above fifty in Firsts (including six hundreds) – and he also held his 100th catch in First Grade.

During his innings of 28 against Sutherland in Third Grade on Saturday, Brayden Dilley passed 2000 runs for the club in all grades.  His opening partner, Matthew Powys, also passed 2000 runs in all grades.  We’re going to go out on a limb here and guess that this is the first time a pair of openers have both passed 2000 runs for the club in the course of the same innings.

Andrew Hazard’s 71 against Sutherland was his highest score for the club and his first half century in Third Grade.  He followed up with 5-23, his first five-wicket haul for the club and his third in Premier Cricket overall.

Daniel Gauci’s 87 against Sutherland was his highest score for the club and his first half century in Third Grade.  During his innings he passed 1000 runs in all grades in Premier Cricket (915 of them for Blacktown).

Saarangan Arvind claimed his best figures in Fifth Grade (4-25) against Sutherland on Saturday.

In Fifth Grade’s match against Sutherland, Shubham Kaushik scored his first runs for the club and claimed his first wicket for the club.

Reehan Shyamsundar made his debut for the club in the Metropolitan Cup match against Warringah and took 3-17 from his 10 overs.

Milestone Monday

It was a busy week for Hayden Kerr, who completed his first first-class match, against a Victorian team featuring several of the most unnecessary mullets seen for many seasons, with innings of 62 not out and 11 not out, as well as his first wickets (2-54 and 1-18).  The following day, he played his second Marsh Cup 50-over match for NSW (also against Victoria), and hit his highest score in that competition, 43 (as well as his first sixes, two massive blows into the Ladies’ Stand from the bowling of Brody Couch).  And, for good measure, he also improved on his best List A bowling figures, collecting 2-16, besides collecting his first Marsh Cup player-of-the-match award.

Liam Robertson has now scored precisely 7777 runs for the club, which is not a milestone exactly, but seems like the sort of thing people ought to know.

Jordan Gauci’s 55 not out against Northern District was his first half-century for the club, and his 31st score above fifty in Premier Cricket (including five centuries).

When Devlin Malone collected his first wicket on Sunday, he passed another leg-spinner, Chris Elder (190 wickets), to become the club’s 14th highest wicket taker in First Grade.  Close followers of Devlin’s First Grade batting average will know that it has lurked in single figures for a while now, but Sunday’s majestic first-ball six, and the inelegant scrambled single that followed, have lifted it to precisely 10.00.

The T20 match against Western Suburbs was Dugald Holloway’s 100th First Grade match for the club.

The T20 match against Western Suburbs was Tim Cummins’ 100th match for the club, all of them in Firsts. When the First Test of the Ashes series begins in Brisbane, Tim will become the third brother of an Australian Test captain to play First Grade for University (after Jack Simpson, brother of Bob, and Danny Waugh, brother of Steve. And, yes, this is obscure, but gives us a break - we need to get creative when it rains).

During his innings against Western Suburbs on Sunday, Charlie Dummer passed 1000 runs in First Grade (162 of them for Campbelltown).

In the Poidevin-Gray match against Western Suburbs on Sunday, Darcy Manners (2-20) took his first wickets in Poidevin-Gray, and Hugo Fraval (1-14) took his first wicket for the club.
