Hayden Kerr, Sydney University Cricket Club First Grade player #754, has today made his List A debut for New South Wales in the Marsh Cup against Tasmania at Bellerive Oval.

Kerr joined Sydney University in 2013 as a left-arm swing bowler and handy batsman and plugged away in the lower grades for a few seasons before his maiden ‘Grade’ cricket century in the 2015/16 4th Grade Premiership Grand Final catapulted the career which we know today. Always a talented ball striker, Kerr redefined his approach with the willow (and knife and fork) and became one of the most damaging batsman in the Premier Cricket competition.

Fresh off the 2016/17 season that saw Kerr punish 689 runs at an average of 35 in a mixture of grades, he commenced his 2017/18 Premier Cricket campaign with a blistering 86 off 76 deliveries at the top of the order in First Grade. This would be the first of eight half-centuries that the right-hander would compile in the year, a year that saw him finish with 813 runs at 39 and a handy 22 wickets.

Consistent performances gave Kerr a warranted selection in the ACT/NSW Country Futures League side and he continued to dominate Premier cricket, particularly white ball fixtures, in 2018/19 and registered his first century in the top grade against Randwick-Petersham at Petersham Oval.

He finished the 2018/19 season with 770 runs at 39, whilst injuries limited his bowling capabilities.

Congratulations Kerry, not bad for a podgy left-arm seamer.
