NSW and SUCC allrounder Sean Abbott was awarded the Steve Waugh Medal for 2013/14 on Friday evening. Abbott (22) topped the wicket tally in the Ryobi Cup competition with 16 scalps and claimed a further 27 wickets in the Sheffield Shield campaign. He also calimed Ryobi Cup player of the Year for his fine allround efforts.
The most prized award in NSW Cricket is decided by a 3-2-1 voting system by players at the end of each one day, or 4 day fixture for NSW. Abbott's consitent contributions resulted in a total of 169 votes, 8 clear of Steve Smith (161) and 36 clear of Ryan Carters (133). An amazing achievement and all at SUCC applaud Sean for his efforts.
Ryan Carters didn't leave the night empty handed either! Capping off an amazing move to NSW from Victoria, Carters was voted the Bupa Sheffield Shield Player of the Year. His 861 runs at 53.81 has confirmed he is one of Australia's most promising opening batsmen.
Well done to both guys, we look forward to seeing you in action this weekend for SUCC!
