WELCOME TO 2015!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND WELCOME TO 2015

On behalf of the Club, we wish you all a happy new year and hope that you all had a safe and joyous Christmas/New Year break. We hope that you have recharged the batteries and are ready to launch into a concerted push towards the Club Championship and various competition finals.

TRAINING:
Note that Club training will commence as per usual times & location as of THIS Tuesday (6th January 2015). We look forward to seeing you all back with the bat & ball in hand preparing for this week's matches.

GREEN SHIELD:
Our Green Shield lads will be the first to take to the field in 2015 in their Round 4 clash with Hawkesbury at Sydney Uni No. 1 Oval on Tuesday from 10am. The Green Shield team is currently sitting in sixth position with 2 wins and 1 loss, and 4 rounds remaining. The remaining matches are against Hawkesbury (6/1/15), UNSW (8/1/15), Fairfield-Liverpool (13/1/15) and Wests (15/1/15).

GRADE COMPETITION:
Our grade sides return to action this Saturday 10th January in limited overs matches against Randwick-Petersham from 10am, with 1st Grade playing at home at Uni No. 1 Oval. Currently, SUCC is 5th in the Club Championship standings only 20 points from 2nd and trailing leaders, Manly, by 126 points. With all grade teams in contention for finals positions, the next 2 months of cricket will be crucial.

POIDEVIN-GRAY SHIELD:
Our PG side is due to return to the field this Sunday 11th January against Northern District at Mark Taylor Oval. This competition is moving quickly towards the finals with this weekend's match being the final round of the preliminary season before finals hit off next Sunday. Currently one point out of the finals positions, our lads take on the undefeated ND's in a must-win match. Good luck lads!

METROPOLITAN CUP:
Metro Cup recommences this weekend also, with match details yet to come from SMCC. Our Metro Cup boys are well in the hunt for a repeat title, currently sitting second with one outright and 3 first innings victories, they also have scored the most runs and taken the most wickets in the competition.

SOCIAL:
With our 150th year now officially over, there are still plenty of opportunities to support your Club off the field. The first function of 2015 is the rescheduled Blue & Gold Luncheon to be held on Friday 6th February 2015 at The Ivy. We strongly urge all of our players and supporters to support this event and help kickstart our 2015 fundraising campaigns (least of which will be towards ensuring No. 2 Oval returns to a playing status as soon as possible). For further information, please contact the Club.

Also on the calendar for early 2015 is the O'Keefe-O'Sullivan Trophy function to be held on Saturday 14th February 2015 in conjunction with our 1st grade match against St George. Details are being finalised for this function and will be released soon, but please save this date in your diary.

With half of the 2014/15 season completed, we look forward to an exciting end to the season, and wish all of our members a successful 2015.

A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Today we stand united in grief, in tragedy and in respect as a Club.

Today we stand with our hearts open, with our hands outstretched, reaching out to all those who have been affected by the tragedy of Phillip Hughes’ death.

We especially express our deepest sympathy to all Phillip’s  family and friends; to all his teammates, those who played with him and against him, on a day when all distinctions of Club and State and Country are unimportant.

We also reach out to all those in our own Club who shared the fields with him, especially to Sean Abbott and his family.

.“The life and death of each of us has its influence on others.”

As previously notified, professional counselling and support are available. You are never alone. All you have to do is contact Dale Bryant for details: dale@sydneyuniversitycricket.com.au.

On Sunday, our Poidevin Gray side will play Parramatta at University no 1 Oval. I am proposing that we gather at lunch time or at any other part of the day. We’ll gain strength from being with each other and in supporting some of our younger players who will be on the field.

                                                      With every consolation,

                                                          JAMES RODGERS
