The first Students’ Scoreboard for 2020 provides mixed results for the SUCC faithful after a hard fought round against Northern District was completed just prior to Christmas.

1st Grade were clinical in securing the points after assuming a dominant position on Day 1. Dugald Holloway was the standout with the ball, combining typical pace and aggression to claim 4/40. 2nd Grade suffered a painful loss, going down by the narrow margin of 6 runs. Despite beginning Day 2 strongly to reach 2/97 chasing 150, Northern District were able to seize momentum and claimed 8/47 to snatch the 6 points.

3rd Grade were clinical in defending 265, led by the new ball pair of Josh Toyer and Sam Wood who claimed 5/57 and 4/56 respectively. 4th Grade were unable to reel in Norther District’s score of 8/293 despite a superb century from AJ Grant whilst 5th Grade ended in a draw on a dour Day 2.

Metro Cup played exceptional cricket to claim first innings points in a seesawing affair against Sutherland. Andrew Wilkinson backed up from 5th Grade on Saturday to bowl 23.5 overs unchanged and claim the phenomenal figures of 7/53. On the back of this first innings performance, one could not blame skippper Greg Cade for pursuing 10 points and an outright victory but this endeavour was thwarted by a remarkable 150* from Sutherland opener Tim Brandt in the second dig.

Green Shield have endured a rocky start to their campaign, suffering 4 tough losses against Eastern Suburbs, Gordon, UNSW and most recently a close contest with Randwick Petersham. The young Students will be looking to bounce back this Sunday against Sutherland.

The Students will look the commence 2020 strongly in Round 9, a one-day round against Sutherland.

From everyone here at SUCC we wish you a happy New Year. Our thoughts are particularly with those in bushfire affected areas and we hope 2020 brings safety and happiness for you and your families.
