Gary Whitaker has announced his resignation from the position of Director of Cricket for Sydney University Sport and Fitness, with effect from 6 April.

Gary joined Sydney University in 2010-11.  No club coach in recent times has created a more enviable record than Gary.  Under his direction, we won the 2013-14 Club Championship, as well as four First grade titles, a win in the First Grade Limited Overs competition, four Second Grade premierships, and premierships in Thirds, Fourths and Metropolitan Cup.  Gary’s efforts were recognized when he was named the SCA’s Coach of the Year in 2013-14 and he has also been acknowledged as SUSF’s Premier Coach of the Year.  He has continued to develop his skills by undertaking a Master’s degree in coaching, and he has always approached his work with his own unique blend of insight and passion.

We wish Gary and Robyn every success in their next endeavours.  There will be, later in the year, a formal opportunity for the club to acknowledge Gary’s contribution.  In the meantime, most of you have formed your own personal relationships with Gary over the years, and I’d encourage you to reach out to thank him in your own way.

Your Board remains committed to the goal of maintaining the club as the best place in Sydney for young cricketers to develop in every facet of their lives.  We will soon begin the process of considering Gary’s replacement, which may involve a consideration of the nature of the coaching role.  We’ll keep you informed as these plans progress.  In the interim, Grant Lambert will be taking on an increased load in preparing our teams for the coming finals.
